The work pays off
I can’t guarantee much, but I can guarantee this: the work pays off. No, it’s not easy or pain free. No, it’s not all beautiful enlightenment and peace in our hearts. To get there, there’ll be some cracking ourselves open, some looking into what we hide from, some truths about ourselves we are not always willing to look. Honestly, doing the work suuuuckkss, but oh man is that worth it!
This is a journey of a lifetime and as our beautiful Tony Robbins says, the work never ends. Wise words, Mr. Robbins, wise words. One day, I was in the bathroom of a therapist (one of many I’ve had in my life) years ago. There was a picture on the wall with an onion sliced in the middle so you could see its layers that said (something like that.. it’s been a long time so cut me some slack): “Therapy is peeling a never ending onion”. That idea never left my mind and over a decade later I’ve just accepted that the onion will never end. The layers will keep coming off and I’ll learn more about myself.
The more I get to know myself, the more I love myself and have self compassion.
Here’s the thing: we gotta be gentle, loving and kind here. The world out there is already brutal enough and if we don’t have a good relationship with ourselves then how the hell are we supposed to navigate life and find all that peace we look for?
So do the work, be brave with your life, sit with your emotions, give yourself a chance. You’ll be surprise with what you find within.
